We belong to an international congregation of more than 3,700 women religious. Our congregation in North America is divided into six major areas known as provinces. Our province – the St. Louis province – numbers more than 500 sisters. Although our sisters serve in 20 U.S. states and eight countries abroad, we call our 113-year old motherhouse home. Nestled along the banks of the Mississippi River, it is the oldest SSND motherhouse on its original site in North America.
We are unique individuals. Our sisters serve in a number of diverse ministries with individuals of various ages, backgrounds and cultures. We all have different gifts and talents to share – in schools, parishes, offices, prisons, etc. – wherever there are unmet needs – we attempt to share the all-encompassing love and wisdom of God.

What we hold in common is our commitment to Jesus’ mission of unity among all people. We live, work and pray together – striving to make our world a better one. We are women of hope living out and passing on the charism, the spirit of our foundress, Blessed Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger. We are educators in all we are and do. We educate with a world vision believing that the world can be changed through the transformation of persons.
Our sisters embrace the Gospel responsibility to live simply, making the concerns of the poor our own, and reverencing all creation. We daily give our lives to bring about the oneness for which Jesus Christ was sent.
